My visit to the ER

Tuesday night I decided I was going to make brownies for Jesse and I. The plan was to eat brownies and ice cream while we watched the movie I had rented earlier, National Treasure. Things didn't quit go as I had planned.
I had just mixed all the ingredients for the brownies, scooped everything into the pan and as I was putting the Pyrex glass bowl into the sink it either slipped out of my hands or hit the corner of the sink and broke. Everything was in slow motion at this point, I heard the bowl break and saw the pieces scatter everywhere. Then I looked down at my leg and wasn't quit sure what I was looking at. My skin was open and I could see white stuff. I quickly grabbed my skin and put it back together, grabbed a hand towel and put it over the cut. I saw blood on the floor and started to freak out. Thankfully Jordan goes to bed at 8 pm and this was all happening around 9:15pm or so. Jesse normally works Monday's and Tuesday's until about 10pm so I was home all alone. As I was trying to keep my skin together I hobbled over to the counter to reach the phone. I was trying to keep my foot elevated so I propped it up on the counter. I quickly dialed Jesse's cell and frantically told him what was going on. I told him that I wasn't over reacting that I saw white and it was either my bone or something else. I begged him to come home as fast as he could because I was going to pass out or throw up. I then called his parents, who live about 5- 10 minutes away, told his mom what was happening and asked if she could come over to stay with Jordan while Jesse took me to the ER. For you that know me well you can only imagine how I was on the phone, a crying hysterical mess. I then called my mom and asked if she would stay on the phone with me until Jesse got home to make sure I didn't pass out.
Jesse finally got home after about 3 phones calls of me yelling "hurry up I can't wait much longer". His mom showed up just minutes after he did. He need to look at the cut and I was scared to show it to him. I didn't want to look so I closed my eyes, one look was good enough for me, I didn't want to see anymore then I already had. He spoke calmly and said that we needed to go the ER asap. I kept saying it's really bad isn't it, you just don't want me to freak out anymore then I already am. He said, yes, it is really bad so we need to go to the ER.
I held my wound closed the whole way to Evergreen hospital, which only took us about 15 minutes to get there from our house. We checked in and a nurse came out to look at the cut and asked if I would like her to bandage it up so I didn't have to look at it and hold my skin closed while we are waiting for a room, I said yes of course. Thankfully we didn't have to wait very long and they got me right into a room. The lady warned us that we might be there for a while getting x-rays, an MRI and keeping me to make sure no infection occurred. I was a little worried because the last time I was in the ER, when I had an ovarian cyst rupture, I was there for eight hours before I got to go home.
When we got into the room they gave me a tetanus shot, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but my arm is really sore now. The next thing they needed to do was numb the wound up, which was what I was most scared of. I told them I know what happens, I watch ER and Grey's Anatomy, they just laughed at me :) They had to clean the wound and numb it. In order for them to numb it they had to stick needles in the open wound. I would say the pain is worse then contractions. I was squeezing Jesse's hands so hard the whole time, I thought I was going to rip it off his arm. Finally after what had seemed like an hour the wound was numb. Another Dr. came in to flush it with water and to make sure there was no class in there. I got really queasy during this step and thought I was going to throw up a few times. He said that everything looked really good, there was no glass and it didn't look like I had cut any tendons. The main DR came back in to do the stitches and he said again thankfully I hadn't cut any tendons or we would have had to call an orthopedic surgeon. So I didn't need to get any x-rays or an MRI. I got 3 stitches inside the wound and what I think is called a rolling stitch on the surface, which is probably equivalent to 30 stitches, to close the skin up. A lot of Dr's and nurses came in to see my cut, I guess they thought it was really cool and interesting, not me.
Thankfully we weren't there very long, maybe 3 hours. When we finally got home, after going to Walgreen's to fill my antibiotic prescription and to pick up some gauze, it was around 1 am. It has been so hard to sleep because I have to keep my foot elevated for 3 days. I have to wear a boot for 7 days and I can't run for a month. I am so upset about that because I love working out with my Stroller Strides class. We'll see how I am feeling and I might go and just walk. Right now walking is really hard and I notice when I do walk that my wound starts to ooze and bleed. Thankfully Jesse was home with me Wednesday during the day and my mom came in the afternoon and spent the night to help with Jordan. Jesse's mom was so nice and brought us over a wonderful steak dinner. And thanks to me we had brownies for dessert.
My mom came over today to help with Jordan and my Grandparents are coming over to help on Friday. I am so lucky to have family around that can help take care of me and Jordan while Jesse is busy with deliveries. My mom just took Jordan to Flower World so they could look around and to get her out of the house. I feel so bad because she doesn't really understand how come I can't pick her up and play that much with her. She knows I have an boo boo because she keeps pointing to it. Hopefully in a few more days I will be more mobile and can play with her more.
Now I am just taking it easy watching TV, reading books and napping. I feel so lazy having people help me, clean the house and take care of Jordan for me. It is unfortunate that this happened to me, but I am so thankful that I am okay. I get very uneasy every time I go into the kitchen now, so I think I am going to put baking on hold for awhile until I can get my open skin image out of my head.
Here is a picture of my foot bandaged up and a picture of the stitches, it is gross so I am sorry.
